Anton Sokolov is a Russian professional futsal player who captains the Tyumen club. He has also made significant contributions to the Russian national futsal team throughout his career.
Humble Beginnings
Sokolov began his futsal journey in his hometown of Tyumen. After a stint with the Kogalym-based club "KOIL" during the 1998-1999 season, he returned to Tyumen and joined a newly formed team. From that moment forward, his career has been inextricably linked to one club, which has undergone name changes over the years from "Sibnefteprovod" to "Tyumen."
International Recognition
Sokolov's exceptional talent earned him a call-up to the Russian national team in 2002. Despite Tyumen being considered an underdog in the championship, Sokolov continued to receive invitations. He played a pivotal role in Russia's silver medal victory at the 2005 UEFA Futsal Championship and was also selected for the 2010 UEFA Futsal Championship, where he notably scored a penalty against Spain.
