Biography of Denis Quiñones

Denis Quiñones is a Puerto Rican actress and beauty pageant contestant. She became the fourth Puerto Rican to win the Miss Universe pageant. She represented Puerto Rico in the Miss Universe 2001 pageant and competed as Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2001. She also represented her hometown, Lares, in the national pageant. The Miss Universe 2001 competition took place in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, where Indian model Lara Dutta crowned Quiñones.

As Miss Universe, Quiñones spent a year living in New York City, enjoying the perks of being a celebrity. She had access to a stylist and hairdresser, a personal car, a luxurious wardrobe, professional advertising support from the Miss Universe Organization, a $60,000 scholarship to a New York film school, and the opportunity to travel around the world. Although she had duties related to her travels, Quiñones seemed to embrace them.

On May 29, 2002, she passed on the crown to Russian winner Oksana Fedorova at the Miss Universe pageant. After stepping down as Miss Universe, Quiñones enrolled in a two-year program at the School for Film and Television. She has since become a professional actress, with notable roles including the lead role in the Spanish version of Nilo Cruz's play "Anna in the Tropics." Quiñones continued to sharpen her talent in the United States, earning awards from the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA) and the ACE Award for her role in the play.

In October 2005, she played the role of Dona Rosita in the film adaptation of Federico Garcia Lorca's play "Doña Rosita la soltera." Quiñones also showcased her acting abilities to American audiences, appearing in the popular series "Smallville" as Andrea. She was also cast as Rachel in the pilot episode of the CW Television Network series "Aquaman." However, the series did not proceed beyond the pilot.

In November 2006, Quiñones starred in the off-Broadway production of Antonio Zancada's comedy "Zanahorias," earning her another ACE Award in 2007. In July 2008, it was announced that she would play the role of Lara in the film "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell," but due to scheduling conflicts, the producer had to remove Quiñones from the cast.

Quiñones was previously in a relationship with René Pérez, a member of the alternative reggae duo "Calle 13." The details of their breakup are unknown. Currently, she is in a relationship with Dominican actor Frank Perozo, as revealed by Perozo in March 2010.
