Biography of Dennis Alexio
American kickboxerDennis Alexio is an American kickboxer who has had an impressive career spanning over two decades. Born and raised in Vacaville, California, Alexio developed a passion for sports at a young age, initially focusing on football, baseball, and basketball. However, he eventually transitioned to martial arts, starting with tansudo and later transitioning to kickboxing.
Early Career
In the early 1980s, Alexio made his professional kickboxing debut against Mike King, in which he suffered a technical knockout loss. Despite this setback, Alexio quickly rebounded and went on to win his next 17 fights, with all victories coming by knockout, except for one fight that lasted beyond three rounds. These impressive wins earned Alexio considerable fame and recognition, establishing him as a dominant force in the sport.
First Defeat
Alexio's undefeated streak came to an end when he faced Don 'The Dragon' Wilson in the first full-contact WKA championship in the light heavyweight division in Hollywood. The fight went the distance, and Wilson was declared the winner by a narrow margin. Alexio disputed the result, suggesting that Wilson had received preferential treatment in his home state. However, a rematch never materialized.
Champion in Multiple Weight Classes
Despite the defeat, Alexio quickly rebounded, winning the PKA world title in the light heavyweight division on September 14, 1984. Over the next year, he successfully defended the title twice against top contenders. Alexio then moved up to the heavyweight division, where he captured another championship belt.
During his professional career, which spanned from 1984 to 1985, Alexio also pursued boxing and achieved seven victories, five of which came by knockout. By 1987, he had amassed an impressive record of 26 wins and only one loss. Alexio's move to the heavyweight division did not hinder his performance, as he continued to dominate his opponents.
Later Career and Retirement
On August 6, 1990, Alexio secured a convincing technical knockout victory over Canadian fighter Darrell Henegan, claiming the titles of ISKA, KICK, and FFKA champion. Later that year, he relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he added 12 more wins to his resume at the local sports center.
In March 1992, Alexio faced one of his toughest opponents, Croatian Muay Thai fighter Branko Cikatić, in a battle for the WMAC heavyweight championship. The fighters proved evenly matched, with Alexio displaying superior hand strikes and Cikatić showcasing better kicks. The thrilling contest ended in a draw.
Following three more knockout victories, Alexio encountered Australian Stan Longinidis in a fight that lasted a mere 15 seconds. In that brief encounter, Alexio suffered a devastating leg injury, fracturing both his tibia and fibula. However, after recovering from the injury, Alexio returned to the ring, embarking on a winning streak and claiming the IKF and WAKO heavyweight titles.
His last fight took place on December 18, 1999, when he competed for the WAKO championship. After this bout, Alexio retired from professional kickboxing and did not make a comeback to the ring.
