Biography of Diane Duane
Diane Duane is an American science fiction and fantasy writer. Born in New York, she grew up in Roosevelt, Long Island. After school, she studied nursing and worked as a nurse for two years until 1976, when she moved to California and became an assistant to David Gerrold. Her first novel was published by Dell Books in 1979, after which she worked as a freelance writer. In 1981, she moved to Pennsylvania.
In 1987, Diane Duane married Northern Irish writer Peter Morwood. They moved to the United Kingdom and then to Ireland, where she currently resides in Wicklow.
Young Wizards Series
One of Duane's notable works is the Young Wizards series, a fantasy series for young adults. The series revolves around cat-wizards who protect the portals used by wizards to travel between different worlds. The books take place in the same universe as the Young Wizards series.
Adult Wizardry Series
The Adult Wizardry series is set in the same universe as the Young Wizards series. The series explores the same themes of magic and the battle against entropy. The books follow adult wizards in their journey to solve problems and protect the universe.
Tale of the Five Series
Also known as the Tale of the Five series, this traditional fantasy series has been awaiting completion since 1992. The books delve into themes of sexuality and explore topics such as bisexuality and polygamy in the Middle Kingdoms. Unlike Duane's other children's books, the Tale of the Five series openly discusses human sexuality. Diane Duane is currently working on the final volume of the series.
The Door into Fire and The Door into Shadow have been reissued together under the title Tale of Five: The Sword and the Dragon.
