Early Life
Diego Luna Alexander is the son of Fiona Alexander, an English costume designer, and Alejandro Luna, a renowned Mexican set designer for theater, film, and opera. Tragically, Fiona passed away in a car accident when Diego was only two years old. While his mother worked in the film industry, his father emphasized the importance of theater and art in every person's life. Following family traditions, Diego immersed himself in various art forms and, with his father's support, decided to become an actor. He started appearing on television and in films from a young age and also received roles in theater productions.
Acting Career
Diego Luna made his television debut in the short film "El Último Fin de Año" in 1991. His next television project was the multi-series drama "El Abuelo y Yo" in 1992, where he starred alongside his childhood friend Gael García Bernal. In 1995, Luna joined the cast of the soap opera "El premio mayor" and portrayed the troubled son of Laura León.
Luna's breakthrough in his career came in 2001 when he appeared in the critically acclaimed film "Y tu mamá también." This commercially successful movie garnered attention for Mexican cinema, and Luna once again worked alongside Bernal. Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal founded their production company, "Canana Productions." They recently joined forces with "Golden Phoenix Productions" to co-produce several television documentaries about the unsolved murders of over 30 women in the border town of Ciudad Juárez. Luna also collaborated with Bernal in the comedy film "Casa de Mi Padre" (2011), where Will Ferrell played the lead role. In the same year, Luna starred in Katy Perry's dramatic music video for the song "The One That Got Away." In June 2012, he made his directorial debut with the biopic "Cesar Chavez" about the life of American civil rights activist Cesar Chavez, the founder of the United Farm Workers union.
Personal Life
Diego Luna married Camila Sodi on February 5, 2008. They have two children together: Jerónimo, born on August 9, 2008, in Los Angeles, and Fiona, born on July 1, 2010, in Mexico City, named after Diego's late mother. However, in March 2013, Luna and Sodi announced their separation.
