Dieterich Georg Kieser was a prominent representative of the Naturphilosophical school of medicine, which emphasized the unity of nature and the application of scientific principles to medical practice.

Kieser pursued his medical studies at the universities of Würzburg and Göttingen. In 1812, he was appointed professor at the University of Jena, where he taught internal medicine. He later became the director of the surgical and ophthalmological clinic, and in 1847, the director of the psychiatric clinic.

Kieser authored numerous works on general biology and medicine. His most notable contribution was his book "Elemente der Psychiatrik" (1855), which presented his own observations and was devoid of the Naturphilosophical speculations that characterized his earlier writings.
