Early Life and Club Career
Dimitri Petratos was born in Sydney, Australia, to Greek parents. His father, Angelo, was a defender for Sydney Olympic, and his younger brother, Costa, is also a professional footballer. Petratos began his youth career with Sydney FC, his hometown club. He made his A-League debut with Sydney on November 7, 2010, against Newcastle United Jets.
Move to Malaysia and Return to Australia
In 2013, Petratos went on loan to Malaysian club Kelantan for six months before returning to Australia to join Brisbane Roar. He made his debut for Brisbane on October 19 against his former club, Sydney. On December 26, he scored a hat-trick against Sydney, his first goals for Brisbane. Petratos helped the team win the A-League championship in 2014.
International Breakthrough and Move to South Korea
In 2011, Petratos represented Australia at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia. In 2018, he made his debut for the senior national team in a friendly against Norway.
In early 2017, Petratos transferred to South Korean club Ulsan Hyundai. He returned to Australia later that year, signing a two-year contract with Newcastle United Jets. He made his debut for the Jets on October 7 against Central Coast Mariners, scoring his first goal for the club in the same match.
