Biography of Dmitry Stupka
Dmitry Stupka is an actor, the son of Ostap Stupka and the grandson of Bogdan Stupka. Born in the spring of the following year, the Stupka theatrical dynasty will be enriched with another member of the family: the 27-year-old grandson of the legendary Bogdan Silvestrovich and his 22-year-old girlfriend Katya have decided to get a cute stamp in their passports. Leisurely walking together with "Komsomolskaya Pravda" in Mariinsky Park, the future Mr. and Mrs. Stupka shared their love story with us and revealed details of the upcoming wedding celebration.
Love Story
Dmitry: - Oh, you guys are mean (laughs). Our meeting with Katya happened in October 2012. I came from Taganrog, where I was filming with director Merezhko, and ended up at a party at a nightclub with a friend, where our mutual friends introduced us. I looked at her - she was a beauty! And I started to pursue her.
Katya: - We have been together for 9 months already. Dmitry is a kind boy, we have never had a serious argument. He is affectionate - calls me kitten, sweetheart, baby, kitty. When did we decide it was time to live together?
Dmitry: - I don't even remember when that moment happened. I was lucky, Katya has her own apartment in Kyiv (laughs). I haven't earned my own yet, but do I need to when I'm so lucky with my bride-to-be? Tomorrow we will spend all your-and-and, all my money (sings). Have you already decided on a wedding date?
Dmitry: - It will be in the spring or summer of next year. I still have a difficult task ahead - to come up with a unique way to propose to Katya, even though we haven't officially gotten engaged yet, although we are planning the wedding... The budget is more or less modest: we will manage with $50,000, right Katya?
Katya: - The wedding will be intimate, with no more than 50 guests. And no pretentiousness! We will have an outdoor ceremony in a beautiful meadow, and no registry offices that look like utility companies! As for the church wedding, we haven't decided yet. And are you ready to become parents?
Dmitry: - My mother has been nagging me: "Dima, when will you make me a grandmother?" And I am ready for this serious step. I've had my fun. I've made up my mind. I really want a baby! Possibly a boy. A fighter! With a girl, you need to constantly worry. Katya, how did the Stupka family welcome you?
Katya: - With great warmth. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to meet Bogdan Silvestrovich... But Dmitry brought me home to his grandmother Larisa Semenovna a few days after we met. She is a wise and kind woman. She tells many interesting stories about Bogdan Stupka and often gets upset, but Dmitry and I try to cheer her up. Do you have any shared interests?
Dmitry: - We have two shared interests: sports (we go to the gym together) and traveling. We have already been on vacation in Crimea and Egypt, and we plan to escape to Asia at the end of July - Singapore, Bali, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong. Whenever I have money, I invest it in trips. I used to spend it on cars before!
Katya: - His Mercedes S-Class is enough for him at the moment. But he used to spend money on loud parties. For example, for my 25th birthday, he rented a luxurious house with a pool and sauna for two days, brought in DJ consoles, balloons, and a smoke machine. Now I'm tired of these extravagances. For my 28th birthday in September, we will have a modest dinner in a restaurant with friends and say nice words to each other.
Childhood Memories
Dmitry: - "Mom, where are you? I'm scared!" - these were the words that marked the beginning of my acting career at the age of five when I first stepped on stage in the play "The Master and Margarita," where my grandfather played the lead role. I played a boy whose room was destroyed by the witch Margarita. I was really scared! After the play ended, my grandfather bought me ice cream and congratulated me on my debut. And then he cast me in a play where he played adult Shevchenko and I played the little one. And at that moment, there was no doubt - I wanted to be an actor! When I became a theater student, my grandfather taught me: "Remember, an actor should speak loudly and clearly - so that the people in the back rows can hear you!" But he never advised me on how to act. There were no favors for me during my studies - I had to run to my grandfather to rehearse scenes with other students. But he could scold me harshly when I returned home late at night.
Favorite Roles
Dmitry: - King Lear. I was only able to watch this play once. When I saw my grandfather playing, my heart was breaking into pieces - I felt so sorry for his character, I empathized deeply with both Lear and my grandfather. The psychological tension was unreal - my grandfather played with intensity and precision, and I felt uneasy... I wanted to cry. I loved the humorous "Aeneid" and "Tevye Tevel" with my grandfather. I remember when I watched the "Aeneid" as a child and it was time for the fire scene, I cried behind the scenes - I thought it was real! And I always admired my grandfather's performance in "The Master and Margarita." During this play, an ambulance regularly came for my grandfather - he gave himself completely to the role! Even now, chills run down my spine when I remember how he ran into the hall and started banging on the door in the stalls during one of the scenes (wipes away tears). But my grandfather noticed that mysterious things would happen during and after this play (he would get injured on stage or something would fall on his head), so he refused the role. Do you have dreams about your grandfather sometimes?
Dmitry: - After my grandfather's funeral, I went to the Carpathians, where I had to film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors," and my grandfather appeared in my dream on the night before the Savior's Day. The dream was incredibly touching: my grandfather hugged me and told me he loved me very much. I woke up and cried, it felt so realistic in the dream. You have been a permanent employee at the Ivan Franko Theatre for two years now. Is the salary decent?
Dmitry: - I am a "second category" actor and earn 6,500 hryvnias per month. But I am fed by the film industry! I earn as much in a day of filming as I do in a month at the theater. Katya, has Dmitry ever offered you a role in a movie with him? Perhaps you also dream of an acting career...
Katya: - I recently appeared in one of the scenes in "Kiev Cake," as an extra. I have no intention of becoming an actress.
Dmitry: - I won't let my future wife become an actress! I am very jealous. I don't want to see Katya kissing someone else on screen, even if it's just acting. I once talked about this with Igor Petrenko. "How could you allow your Katya Klimova to participate in such an erotic and intense scene with Gosha Kutsenko in "Antikiller"?! It looks like he's really assaulting her!" - "Dima, are you trying to provoke me deliberately? It's sickening enough as it is." So, I don't want to see a "stranger" person "violate" my love, even on screen.
