Giovanni Antonio Cunego was born in Verona, Italy, and initially studied painting under the tutelage of the renowned artist Erasmo Ferarri. However, his true passion lay in engraving, which he later pursued with great success.

Cunego established his reputation as a master engraver through his numerous reproductions of famous Italian paintings. Using needles, burins, and occasionally the black-chalk technique, he captured the essence of masterpieces by Michelangelo, Raphael, Carracci, Reni, and other renowned artists.
