The Formation of DOPING
Propelled by the creative spark of vocalist, programmer, and songwriter Dmitry "Bes" Bessmertny, DOPING emerged in December 2000 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Bessmertny, formerly of the band "Chuzhie," joined forces with guitarist Vyacheslav Parshin and bassist-second vocalist Mikhail Golubev, both ex-members of "V.O.K.S."
Experimentation and Electronic Ambiance
From its inception, DOPING embraced electronic experimentation. The intricate and unconventional nature of their drum patterns, combined with their preference for computerized sounds, led them to opt for a wholly electronic drumming approach.
A Musical Kaleidoscope
DOPING's music was a wild and eclectic tapestry of genres. Their most aggressive tracks veered towards rap-core and industrial, while slower, more introspective pieces bore the influence of trip-hop. Breakbeat, jungle, acid jazz, cyberpunk, and even elements of metal coalesced in their sonic palette.
Lyrical Exploration
Bes's Russian-language lyrics delved into common themes of death, sex, drugs, madness, hatred, and violence. However, they transcended the typical "hate the world" sentiment, imbuing them with personal and existential-philosophical reflections. The band also included darkly lyrical compositions.
Demo Recordings and Future Aspirations
In October 2001, the band completed a 7-song demo titled "Ya - Shizoid." They continued working on a second demo while contemplating the addition of a female backing vocalist to their lineup.
