Early life and educationDwayne Douglas Johnson was born on May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California, USA. His father, Rocky Johnson (real name: Wayde Douglas Bowles), was a former wrestler, and his mother, Ata Johnson (maiden name: Ata Maivia), was a promoter. His mother has Polynesian ancestry, while his father's family comes from dark-skinned Canadians. Johnson spent some time in New Zealand during his childhood, where he attended Richmond Road School in Grey Lynn, a suburb of Auckland. He later moved to the United States and continued his education at Shepherd Glen Elementary School and Hamden Middle School in Hamden, Connecticut. Johnson attended several other schools, including President William McKinley High School in Honolulu, Hawaii; Glencliff High School and McGavock High School in Nashville, Tennessee; and Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. During his school years, Johnson frequently got into trouble for fighting, theft, and fraud, but he managed to change his behavior and ceased engaging in illegal activities. In high school, his main interest became sports, and he participated in track and field, wrestling, and American football. After graduating, Johnson enrolled at the University of Miami on a full scholarship. He played college football for the Miami Hurricanes and had a successful career until injuries forced him to give up his dreams of playing in the National Football League. On May 3, 1997, Johnson married producer Dany Garcia. They have one daughter together, Simone Alexandra Johnson, who was born on August 14, 2001. The couple announced their divorce on June 1, 2007, but they have maintained a friendly relationship. Garcia often serves as a producer on projects involving Johnson. In 2007, Johnson started dating Lauren Hashian, the daughter of Boston drummer Sib Hashian. They have two daughters together, Jasmine Lia Johnson (born on December 16, 2015) and Tiana Gia Johnson (born on April 17, 2018).
