Born on October 12, 1974, in Istanbul, Turkey, Ebru Gündes received her early education in Ankara. However, due to financial difficulties, she had to discontinue her education when she returned to Istanbul with her family. She also spent a considerable amount of time in Izmir.

Gündes' vocal talents were discovered at an early age when one of her relatives took her to 'Neşe Demirkat', a partner label of the Turkish recording studio 'Raks Neşe Müzik'. Impressed by her voice, the studio introduced her to music producers Koral Sarıtaş and Selçuk Tekay.

Her debut album, 'Tanrı Misafiri', was released in 1992, after Ebru underwent professional training under the guidance of her producers. The album became a massive success, selling 1,250,000 copies. On stage, Ebru appeared as a charming and innocent young girl, often dressed in white, and she developed the attractive habit of raising one eyebrow. Her photographs adorned billboards across Istanbul.

Coming from a poor family and growing up in one of the city's most impoverished neighborhoods, Ebru did not possess refined manners, and her speech was rough, in contrast to her angelic singing voice. Nevertheless, this authenticity and relatability garnered her strong public support. All her subsequent albums also enjoyed immense popularity.

Unfortunately, fame and stardom took a toll on Ebru's health. In December 1999, during the recording of her album 'Dön Ne Olur', she experienced a brain hemorrhage, which resulted in two serious surgeries. She spent a significant amount of time away from the public eye, undergoing rehabilitation, and fortunately, she made a full recovery and returned to the stage in good health. 'Dön Ne Olur' became one of the best-selling albums ever recorded in Turkey.

In November 2001, Gündes released the album 'Ahdım Olsun', which embodied the painful experiences she had endured from December 1999 to November 2001. The songs on the album reflected the events that unfolded in her life during those two years.

Ebru Gündes has appeared hundreds of times on Turkish television as a singer, and recently she ventured into acting in the sitcom 'İmkansız Aşk'. She was also the host of her own show 'Mega Show', one of the most popular shows in Turkey. Each week, Ebru would join other Turkish artists, particularly her longtime friends, singers Serdar Ortaç and İbrahim Tatlıses. On the show, she performed her own songs, classic songs, and duets with other artists.

She then appeared as a guest judge on the incredibly popular singing competition 'Popstar Alaturka' alongside the renowned Turkish singer Bülent Ersoy, Orhan Gencebay, and Armağan Çağlayan. Just before leaving the TV show due to issues with the host, she released her new album 'Evet' ('Yes').

As of 2010, Ebru Gündes planned to work on her next album, which would include popular songs, classic Turkish songs, and Arabesque music. The release of the album, titled 'Beyaz,' was set for 2011.

The singer has been married three times. Her most recent marriage was to a successful businessman named Reza Zarrab. The wedding was a private ceremony, and no photographs were published in the newspapers.

Although Ebru's health is now in good condition, she mentioned in an interview that her perspective on life has changed since the brain hemorrhage. She occasionally experiences panic attacks related to her health but tries her best to cope with them.
