Edward Burns Jr., born on January 29, 1968, in Woodside, Queens, New York, is an American actor, director, producer, screenwriter, and former assistant director. He is best known for his roles in films such as "Saving Private Ryan" and "Sidewalks of New York." Burns' father, Edward Burns Sr., was a police officer, and his mother, Molly, was a civil servant. He is of Irish descent and attended Chaminade High School before transferring to Hewlett High School. After graduating, he briefly attended SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Albany before earning a bachelor's degree in English from Hunter College in 1992.

Early Career and the "McMullen Brothers"

After graduating from college, Burns worked as an assistant director for Oliver Stone on the film "The Doors." During this time, he also wrote, directed, and starred in his own low-budget independent film, "The Brothers McMullen" (1995). The film was critically acclaimed and paved the way for Burns' subsequent success.

Breakthrough and Recognition

In 1996, Burns directed and starred in "She's the One," which featured Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz.
