Early Career and Rise to Prominence
Adam Copeland, better known as Edge, debuted in WWE in the late 1990s alongside his brother Christian. They quickly joined the Brood, a vampiric faction led by Gangrel. Edge and Christian also became members of the Ministry of Darkness, a cult-like group led by The Undertaker.
Edge and Christian broke away from the Brood and established themselves as a successful tag team. On April 2, 2000, at WrestleMania 2000, they defeated The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz in a TLC (Tables, Ladders, and Chairs) match to win their first WWF Tag Team Championship.
Dominant Tag Team Title Reign
Over the next year, Edge and Christian captured the WWF Tag Team Championship seven times, defeating teams like The Dudley Boyz, The Hardy Boyz, The Rock and The Undertaker, Scotty 2 Hotty and Grand Master Sexay, and more.
Solo Success
In 2001, Edge and Christian's winning streak came to an end after losing the tag team titles to The Undertaker and Kane. Edge then focused on his singles career, winning the Intercontinental Championship for a second time at SummerSlam 2001. This led to a rivalry with his brother Christian, who turned heel and attacked him.
Edge won the WWF United States Championship at RAW in 2001, and then the Undisputed Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series 2001. He continued his success by winning the WWE Tag Team Championship with Hulk Hogan shortly after.
Injury and Return
Edge suffered a neck injury in 2003 and was out of action for 13 months. He made a surprise return at WrestleMania XX in 2004 and quickly regained momentum. He won the World Tag Team Championship with Chris Benoit, and then the Intercontinental Championship for a fifth time, defeating Randy Orton at Vengeance 2004.
Rise to the Main Event
Edge's quest for the World Heavyweight Championship began after he interfered in a match between Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels for the title. He was defeated by Michaels at Taboo Tuesday 2004, but he continued to target the championship.
At Survivor Series 2004, Edge led his team to victory over Chris Benoit's team, earning control of RAW. While still holding the Tag Team Championship with Benoit, Edge turned on him, setting his sights on the World Heavyweight Championship.
World Heavyweight Championship Victory
Edge faced Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho in a triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 21. In a shocking turn of events, Edge pinned Benoit while simultaneously tapping out to Benoit's "Crippler Crossface." The match resulted in the title being vacated.
Edge defeated Benoit in a rematch for the vacant championship at Backlash 2005, becoming the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time in his career. He held the title for six months, defeating opponents like Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Randy Orton.
Legendary Career
Edge's legendary career spanned over two decades. He won 31 championships in WWE, including 11 World Championships (7 World Heavyweight Championships and 4 WWE Championships). He is also a two-time Royal Rumble winner, a United States Champion, and a 14-time World Tag Team Champion.
Edge retired from in-ring competition in 2011 due to a neck injury. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012.
