Early Life and Rise to Fame

Edith Minturn Sedgwick was born on April 20, 1943, in Santa Barbara, California, into a family of sculptors, philanthropists, and ranch owners. At the age of 21, she inherited everything her beloved grandmother left behind. Edie moved to New York City and settled into her grandmother's 14-room apartment on Park Avenue. In January 1965, a friend introduced Edie to Andy Warhol's "Factory." Warhol, an artist and art-house director, declared that he would turn Sedgwick into a "poor little rich girl" and make her the queen of the "Factory." The first of the films featuring Edie, "Poor Little Rich Girl," was initially intended to be part of a series of films chronicling her life, titled "The Poor Little Rich Girl Saga." Filming for "Poor Little Rich Girl" began in March 1965 in Sedgwick's apartment.

Rise and Fall with Andy Warhol

Andy cast Edie in his endless films, including "Vinyl," "Kitchen," and "Chelsea Girls." Together, they dazzled in society, like the unofficial king and queen of Manhattan. They were utterly enamored with each other. After Edie's departure from Andy Warhol's circle, she lived at the Chelsea Hotel, where she developed a close relationship with Bob Dylan. Rumors suggest that she was the muse behind Dylan's original 1966 album, "Blonde on Blonde."

Tragic End

Towards the end of her life, Edie became dependent on barbiturates and experimented with illicit substances such as opioids, which complicated both her creative and personal relationships. She was only 28 years old when she passed away. The investigating officer in Edie Sedgwick's death labeled it as an "undetermined/misadventure/suicide." The recorded time of her death was 9:20 AM. According to her death certificate, the immediate cause of death was "probable acute barbiturate intoxication" due to ethanol intoxication.
