Discovery of Ensomheden Island
In August 1878, the explorer achieved a notable milestone by discovering an island in the remote Arctic. Located northeast of the Yenisei River estuary, he named this uninhabited landmass Ensomheden (meaning "loneliness" in Norwegian), thus expanding the map of the Far North.
