Biography of Efim Lazarev

Efim Lazarev was a Ukrainian chess player and chess writer. He was born in the Soviet Union and later became a prominent figure in the Ukrainian chess community. Lazarev achieved the title of Master of Sport of the USSR in 1960 and went on to become a coach for the Ukrainian national teams from 1958 to 1969.

Lazarev also worked as a chess columnist for newspapers such as "Molod Ukrainy" from 1958 to 1972 and "Sportivnaya Gazeta" starting from 1973. He was known for his insightful analysis and commentary on chess games and tournaments. Lazarev was a member of the International Association of Chess Journalists since 1982.

In addition to his work as a writer and coach, Lazarev was a successful chess player. He became the Champion of Kiev in 1963 and also achieved success as a member of the DSO "Avangard" team, finishing in second place in the Soviet Team Chess Championship in 1961.
