Biography of Egor Druzhinin
Egor Druzhinin, a Russian actor, dancer, and choreographer, was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) to choreographer Vladislav Yurievich Druzhinin. His father worked at the Komissarzhevskaya Theater and also had his own pantomime studio called "Kvadrat." In his early years, Egor attended school without any thoughts of pursuing a career in the film industry. However, everything changed when his father recommended him for the role of the main character in the children's film "The Adventures of Petrov and Vasechkin," directed by Vladimir Alenikov.
Egor and his friend Dima Barkov, who also auditioned for a role in the film, were eventually chosen by Alenikov. They were sent to a pioneer camp, and after a successful reading of the screenplay, Alenikov came to pick them up. This marked the beginning of their acting careers. Initially, Egor and Dima approached acting as a game, as they were only ten years old at the time. However, when they were offered the opportunity to go to Moscow for auditions, they realized that it was more than just fun and games.
The filming process was intense, with long hours lasting 12-14 hours a day. Despite the challenges, Alenikov knew how to work with children and made the experience feel like a game. The resulting film, "The Adventures of Petrov and Vasechkin," was a success and brought Egor and his co-stars, Barkov and Inga Ilm, popularity. They became recognizable figures and received letters from fans. However, Egor recalls that this newfound fame did not affect him much, except for the fact that people had misconceptions about his life.
After completing school, Egor tried to enter the Moscow Art Theatre School (MXAT), but he was not successful. However, he was accepted into the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music, and Film (LGITMiK). During his time at the institute, Egor also worked at the Leningrad Youth Theatre, mainly in minor roles.
During this period, Egor married his classmate Veronika. After graduating from the institute, they decided to move to New York City, USA. In New York, Egor studied dance and later taught tap, modern, and classical jazz dance. He also performed as part of a dance quintet in the comedy club "Canotier."
After living in America for six years, Egor and his wife returned to Russia. They wanted their child to be born in their home country and felt that it was time to come back. Egor also realized that he had left for the West not for something specific but because he was running away from something. Despite the difficulties with work in Russia at that time, he decided to return and get involved in various activities.
Egor has worked as the head of a dance group at the "Valhall" restaurant and collaborated with many Russian pop artists such as Philipp Kirkorov, the group "Blestyashchie," and Alexander Buynov as a dance choreographer. He was also the main choreographer for the New Year's show "Old Songs About the Main Thing. Postscriptum" in 2000-2001 and participated in the "Star Factory" project. Currently, Egor is involved in the musical "Chicago."
