Early Life and Education
Eric Holcomb, an American politician, was born into a family of an engineer father and a schoolteacher mother. During his high school years, Holcomb was elected student body president of Pike High School and later graduated from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana, in 1990.
Military Service
Following his graduation, Holcomb enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his six years of service, he spent three years in Lisbon, Portugal, working at a NATO research center that focused on strategic planning for potential military conflicts.
Political Career
After leaving the military, Holcomb became politically active, supporting conservative Republican Congressman John Hostettler, who held his seat for 12 consecutive terms, the longest tenure for an Indiana House member since the 1930s. In 2000, Holcomb ran for the Indiana House of Representatives but lost to Democrat John Frueh.
In 2003, Holcomb became an advisor to Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels. He went on to serve as the Indiana Republican Party Chairman in 2010 and later as Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Dan Coats.
Lieutenant Governor
On March 3, 2016, Holcomb was sworn in as Indiana's Lieutenant Governor, succeeding Sue Ellsperman, who had resigned to run for Congress. His appointment was approved by a 91-3 vote in the Indiana House of Representatives and unanimously in the Indiana Senate.
Governor of Indiana
In the 2016 gubernatorial election, Holcomb defeated former Indiana House Speaker John Gregg, a Democrat, to become Indiana's 51st Governor. He took office on January 9, 2017.
Personal Life
Holcomb is married to Janet, and the couple does not have any children.
