Grim: The Norwegian Black Metal Drummer
Early Life and CareerGrim, born Erik Brødreskift, was a Norwegian drummer known for his contributions to numerous black metal bands throughout his career. In 1993, he joined Immortal, who were working on their album "Pure Holocaust" at the time. Although he did not perform on the album, his photograph was featured on its cover. Brødreskift's tenure with the band was limited to two concert tours, after which he was dismissed in 1994.
Borknagar and Gorgoroth
In 1995, Brødreskift became a founding member of Borknagar, with whom he recorded three albums: "Borknagar" (1996), "The Olden Domain" (1997), and "The Archaic Course" (1998). In 1996, he joined Gorgoroth, contributing to their EP "The Last Tormentor" (1996) and album "Under the Sign of Hell" (1997).
Arvas and Nocturno Inferno
During this same period, from 1996 to 1997, Grim served as a session drummer for the band Årth (later renamed Arvas). The group recorded an album with his participation in 1996, which was eventually released in 2017 under the title "Nocturno Inferno."
Mental Health and Suicide
Grim's life and career were tragically cut short when he committed suicide on October 4, 1999, by overdosing on drugs. According to members of Immortal, Brødreskift had been struggling with manic depression and had attempted suicide on previous occasions.
