Ernie Banks, also known as Mr. Cub, is an American baseball player who has made a significant impact in the sport. He was born on January 31, 1931, in Dallas, Texas. From a young age, Banks showed interest in sports and excelled in football, basketball, and cycling. However, his true passion was baseball, and he quickly became successful in the sport.

In 1950, Banks began playing for the Kansas City Monarchs and three years later, he joined the Chicago Cubs and made it to the Major Leagues. Throughout his entire baseball career, Banks played for the Chicago Cubs, wearing the number fourteen jersey. His participation in the team was always significant, and his contributions led the Cubs to several victories in 1958 and 1959.

After retiring as a player in December 1971, Banks became a coach for the Chicago Cubs. In May 1973, he even had a successful stint as a manager during one of the games. He continued unofficially fulfilling managerial duties for a period of time. Banks received numerous awards throughout his career and is considered one of the most prominent players in Chicago's sports history.

In 1977, Banks was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and in 1999, he was selected as one of the Major League Baseball All-Century Team's most significant players, ranking 38th. To honor his achievements, a statue was erected in Wrigley Field on March 31, 2008.
