Early Life and Education
Schrott's vocal teacher was Franca Mattiucci, an Italian mezzo-soprano who had a successful career as a singer before becoming a renowned vocal coach. In 1994, at the age of 22, Schrott made his professional debut in the role of Roucher in the production of "Andrea Chénier".

Professional Career
After working at the Municipal Theater in Santiago, Chile, where he performed roles such as Timur in "Turandot" and Sparafucile in "Rigoletto", Schrott received a scholarship to study in Italy. In 1998, he won the first prize and audience sympathy award at the international opera competition "Operalia" founded by the famous tenor Plácido Domingo. This opened doors for him to perform leading roles in major opera houses in Europe and the United States.

Notable Performances
On March 28, 1999, Schrott made his debut at the Vienna State Opera as Banquo in Verdi's "Macbeth". He returned to this opera house to perform roles such as Leporello in "Don Giovanni" and Figaro in "Le nozze di Figaro". He also performed at La Scala in Milan, where he sang the lead role in "Don Giovanni" and the role of Pharaoh in Rossini's "Moses and Pharaoh".
Schrott made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera on November 30, 2000, performing the role of Colline in "La bohème". He returned to the Metropolitan Opera in 2005 to sing Escamillo in "Carmen" and in 2006 for the lead role in "Don Giovanni" during the opera company's tour in Japan. Personal Life
Erwin Schrott is married to Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, and they have a son named Tiago Aruá, who was born on September 5, 2008 in Vienna. In addition to their joint concerts, Schrott and Netrebko have appeared together in performances of "Don Giovanni" during the Metropolitan Opera's tour in Japan in 2006 and at Covent Garden in 2007.
In 2012, Schrott and Netrebko had joint concerts in Germany and Switzerland, followed by performances in the United Kingdom and Denmark. They also have upcoming concerts together in "Gipfeltreffen der Stars" and at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Schrott continues to perform as Don Giovanni in Covent Garden and the Staatsoper Berlin, where he has received critical acclaim.
