Biography of Etienne Fabre
Etienne Fabre, the founder of the glove manufacturing business that led to the establishment of the brand "Maison Fabre," opened his own business in 1924. At the beginning of his journey, he and his brother were personally involved in cutting leather gloves, with the help of only a few people willing to work from home. In 1928, Fabre started producing gloves for aristocrats made from chevron, white goat leather. All the work was done in a modest three-story house owned by the Fabre family, located on the banks of the Tarn River.
Family Expansion
Eighteen years later, Etienne's son, Denis, and Denis' wife, Rose, joined the family business. Rose Fabre, known for her incredible energy and enthusiasm, traveled extensively to promote Etienne's gloves worldwide. With her rich imagination and background in designing for fashion houses, Rose brought a unique touch and stylistic solutions that contributed to the growing popularity of the Fabre family's products. The company flourished, and Rose relocated the production, involving around 300 people, to the heart of Millau.
Challenging Times and Innovation
To overcome the prolonged crisis in the 1970s and 1990s, several production workshops had to be closed. However, Louis Fabre, Rose and Denis' son, decided to launch the first glove collection, which helped to preserve the family business. Despite facing difficult years, the Fabre family celebrated the year 2000 as another significant milestone in their glove business.
The Next Generation
Olivier Fabre, a representative of the Fabre dynasty, left journalism school to join his father and his brother Jean-Marc Fabre in managing the family business. This change marked the introduction of new ideas into the family enterprise. With the support of the company 'Storm' (previously 'YSL'), Olivier conducted extensive research to breathe new life into the family brand. His collaboration with 'Polder' resulted in the creation of the first collection with the 'Maison Fabre' label.
Modernization and Collaboration
In 2005, Olivier and architect Guy Falco reconstructed the workshops in Millau. That same year, Olivier decided to create a line for children and relocated to Paris. This step allowed him to be at the forefront of events, collaborate with talented young designers, and make 'Maison Fabre' gloves more original and fashionable. The fashion house 'Maison Fabre' focused on innovation and collaboration with powerful creators, including brands such as 'Christian Lacroix,' 'Sonia Rykiel,' 'Ann Demeulemeester,' 'Vanessa Bruno,' as well as fashion houses like 'Chanel,' 'Paule Ka,' and 'Bonpoint.' Eventually, in 2010, 'Maison Fabre' caught the special attention of Karl Lagerfeld.
Collaborations and Quality
Many talented stylists have also contributed to promoting 'Maison Fabre' gloves. Recently, the brand collaborated with Austrian designer Michaela Beurger, whose exclusive designs boast exceptional shapes and textures. All 'Maison Fabre' products are known for their quality, excellent fit, and refined design.
