Cuban Independence and Puerto Rico's Status
In 1895, Barbosa returned to the United States and became actively involved in the Cuban independence movement. After its success in 1898, he called for a plebiscite to determine Puerto Rico's political status, but his proposal was not approved.
Death and Legacy
Barbosa died in Santo Domingo on August 11, 1903. He was a prolific writer and public figure known for his essays, philosophical works, and influence on education in Chile and the Dominican Republic. His writings reflected his belief in the power of reason and his dedication to social progress.
