Early Life and Education
Eugeniusz Żmijewski was born into a noble family and attended high school in Łomża before pursuing higher education in Kraków.
Exile to Siberia
In 1839, Żmijewski was exiled to Siberia for his involvement in Konarski's conspiracy. He spent his time in Kabansk and participated in exploration expeditions along the Yenisei and Lena rivers. As the leader of one of the parties, he explored Western and Northern Zabaykalye and the Yenisei Governorate, searching for gold deposits.
Literary Career and Legacy
Żmijewski's writings, including stories and novels, were published in Warsaw journals. His most notable work, "Scenes of Nomadic Life," was a three-volume memoir of his experiences in Siberia. Under the pseudonym Feliks Srzeniawita, he also wrote the historical novel "Stanisław Kmita."
Later Life
After returning from exile, Żmijewski continued to write and publish his memoirs. He is remembered as a talented writer and an adventurous explorer.
