Early Life and Education
Linas Linkevičius was born in Ukmergė, Lithuania. He graduated from Vilnius University with a degree in philology in 1992. In 1994, he completed diplomatic courses at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
Career in Diplomacy
Early Diplomatic RolesLinkevičius joined the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1991, where he worked in the Department of Eastern and Central Europe. From 1995 to 1998, he served as Counselor at the Lithuanian Embassy in Poland.
Senior Diplomatic Positions
In 1998, Linkevičius became Head of the Department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He subsequently served as Consul General of Lithuania in Kaliningrad. From 2001 to 2002, he was Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, and from 2002 to 2003, he served as State Secretary of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Academic and Diplomatic Ambassadorial Roles
From 2002 to 2004, Linkevičius taught at Vilnius University's Institute of International Relations and Political Science. In 2004, he became Secretary of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from 2004 to 2009, he served as Lithuania's Ambassador to Germany.
Current Role
Linkevičius returned to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2009 and currently holds the position of Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Personal Life and Awards
Linkevičius is fluent in English, German, Polish, and Russian. He is married and has two children, a son and a daughter. He has been awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of Lithuania.
