Euphemia von Adlersfeld: A Literary Life
Early Life and EducationEuphemia von Adlersfeld was born on August 18, 1854, in Ratibor, Germany. Born into a noble family, she was the fifth of six children. Her father, Count Alexander Karl Wolfgang, fostered her love of literature and nurtured her soprano voice.
Literary Career
In 1872, Adlersfeld published her first collection of short stories. Notably, she was one of the few German female writers of the 19th century who did not use a pseudonym. From 1881, she edited the annual anthology of German art and poetry.
Marriage and Family
Adlersfeld married in 1884 and gave birth to a daughter, Dagmar, in 1885. Between 1899 and 1903, the family resided in Switzerland.
Later Life and Death
Following the outbreak of World War II, Adlersfeld moved to Munich, where she passed away on April 26, 1941. She was buried in the old part of Munich. Her roadside grave features an impressive stone cross.
