Biography of Fanis Yarullin

Fanis Yarullin, a poet, writer, and playwright, was born on February 9, 1938, in the village of Kyzyl-Yar in the Bavly district of the Republic of Tatarstan. From an early age, the future writer absorbed the beauty of his native nature. In the difficult post-war years, Fanis Yarullin did not have the opportunity to receive a good education. He came from a family of six children, raised by a single mother. His father, Gataulla, died on the front lines in 1942. In 1954, after completing the 8th grade, Fanis found himself in the district center in search of work to avoid hunger. It was difficult for the sixteen-year-old teenager to find something suitable. Nevertheless, luck was on Fanis' side - he got a job as a technician in the communication department of the Tatneft association. Despite being hired on a probationary period, hardworking Fanis quickly mastered the intricacies of the profession and became a highly skilled technician within three years. In 1957, he was drafted into the army, where he joined the aviation school to train as an aerial gunner-radioman. For a young man accustomed to physical labor from childhood, the classes in this school felt cramped, so he joined the sports section and began practicing track and field. In this field, too, he achieved excellent results. But one day, while performing his famous "sun" routine on the horizontal bar, he fell and ended up in the hospital, teetering between life and death. During this time, while Fanis Yarullin was battling a serious illness, true poetry was born in his soul.

The poetic source of Fanis Yarullin, which began with his passionate youthful attempts, gradually grew wider and deeper over time. While in the hospital, Fanis completed high school with the help of teachers from Evening School No. 18. Later, he pursued higher education at Kazan State University from 1964 to 1970, studying through correspondence and successfully graduating. Undoubtedly, work and studies went hand in hand. In 1964, his first collection of poems titled "Min tormyshka gashyq" ("I'm in love with life") was published by the Tatar Book Publishing House. Readers immediately noticed the deep and pure quality of his poems, like spring water from a well. Poem after poem, story after story flowed from Fanis Yarullin's pen. Literary society and readers warmly responded to the works of F. Yarullin, as they were not written with ink but with blood from a wounded heart. In 1964, his poems took second place in the All-Union competition organized by Komsomolskaya Pravda and were included in the poetry collection "Rozovyy olen'" ("Pink deer"), published by Molodaya Gvardiya Publishing House. Fanis Yarullin's poems and stories were published in various newspapers and magazines, almanacs, and translated into Russian, Kazakh, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, and other languages.

The Development of Fanis Yarullin's Creativity

Over time, Fanis Yarullin's creative work became even more profound and diverse. He moved from smaller works, such as poems and short stories, to writing epic poems and novellas. His novellas "Uprugie parusa" ("Resilient Sails"), "Krik gusya" ("The Cry of a Goose"), "Melodiya tsvetov" ("Melody of Flowers"), and poetic works such as "Krik dushi" ("The Cry of the Soul") and "Nesel agachy" ("Tree of Life") brought him special recognition. In 1978, Fanis Yarullin was awarded the Musa Jalil Republican Prize for his collections of poems "Dyhanie" ("Breath") and "Nerazluchnyy drug" ("Inseparable Friend"). In 1995, his book "Krik dushi" ("The Cry of the Soul") received the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan named after G. Tukai. In 2001, Fanis Yarullin was awarded the title of People's Poet of the Republic of Tatarstan. In 1984, he was honored with the title of "Merited Worker of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan" for his achievements in literature, and in 1988, he was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples. His works are included in school textbooks. Every year, students from Kazan State University, Kazan State Humanitarian Pedagogical University, colleges, and pedagogical schools write term papers and defend thesis works based on his works. Currently, Fanis Yarullin is the author of 46 books.
