Biography of Fikhal Amor
Fikhal Amor was born on November 24, 1949, in the free city of Tangier - one of the world capitals of drug addiction, prostitution, and espionage. Growing up in a city where the official authority was practically non-existent, Tangier operated on the principle of "survival of the fittest." Fikhal's family was international: his mother was a Russian artist and his father was a local businessman (which, in the context of Tangier at that time, meant "smuggler").
Fikhal's father recognized that his son would not be able to continue the "family" smuggling business and sent him to Morocco, where he received an excellent education, learned several European languages, and became well-versed in the cultures of Western and Eastern Europe. After completing school, Fikhal Amor first went to France and then to England, where he eventually earned a doctorate in economics. At the age of 24, Fikhal had to make important decisions about his future, determining how to apply his knowledge and what heights to strive for in the next 10-15 years.
Although Fikhal's parents believed that he had no choice but to return to Morocco and apply his academic knowledge in the business field (as capitalism in Morocco was just starting to take on more humane characteristics), Fikhal had a different perspective. He decided to stay in France and used the money he received from his father to buy a small textile company, where he started producing women's clothing, which he also designed himself.
In 1986, Fikhal Amor launched his own label - "PLEIN SUD." The talents of the Moroccan designer were immediately recognized both in France and beyond. "Plein Sud" clothing quickly gained popularity, allowing Amor to expand his business. In 1997, "Plein Sud Shoes" and "Plein Sud Jeans" were introduced, followed by "Plein Sud Tricot" in 1999.
Today, Fikhal Amor's brand "Plein Sud" consists of approximately 15 boutiques, including stores in all three fashion capitals - Paris, London, and New York. Additionally, there are around 400 retail points scattered around the world, from Toronto to Sydney. Celebrities such as Cher, Britney Spears, and Mylène Farmer love to showcase themselves in Fikhal Amor's dresses. Mylène Farmer, in particular, considers him her favorite designer, stating that he appeals to her because he is slightly unconventional and not as well-known as other couturiers, not quite fitting into the existing system.
Thus, Fikhal Amor's journey from Tangier to becoming a renowned fashion designer has been marked by his unique talent, determination, and ability to carve his own path in the fashion industry.
