Biography of Federico Balzaretti

Federico Balzaretti, an Italian football player, currently plays as a left-back for the Italian Serie A club 'Roma' and the national team. He was born on December 6, 1981, in Turin, Piedmont.

Early Career

Balzaretti's sporting career began at the age of six when he became a player at the 'Torino' club's school. He made his debut in the team's uniform during the 2002-2003 season. In the following seasons, he played on loan for 'Varese' and 'Siena'. Balzaretti also participated in the 'Torino' club's campaign in Serie B during the 2004-2005 season, helping the team secure promotion to Serie A. However, financial issues led to the dissolution of the 'Torino' club, making Balzaretti and his teammates free agents.

Move to Juventus

Balzaretti signed a contract with 'Juventus', the main rival of 'Torino', which caused displeasure among his supporters. The fans even booed the player, who had previously expressed his love for 'Torino'. In the 2005-2006 season, he played for 'Juventus' and often played the full matches under the guidance of coach Fabio Capello. Ultimately, 'Juventus' won the championship in 2006. However, the club was involved in a scandal regarding the purchase of players and a revealed conspiracy, leading them to be relegated to Serie B in the summer of 2006.

Fiorentina and Palermo

Balzaretti was sold to 'Fiorentina' in July 2007 for 3.8 million euros. However, he only played in the first six matches of the Serie A season before moving to 'Palermo'. In his new club, Balzaretti chose the number 42 in memory of his father, who was born in 1942. He immediately made an impact and became one of the best Italian left-backs during his time at 'Palermo'.

Move to Roma

On August 1, 2012, Balzaretti signed a three-year contract with 'Roma' for 4.5 million euros. He continued to excel as a left-back and contributed to the team's performances in the following seasons.

International Career

Balzaretti represented various youth teams between 2000 and 2002 before making his debut for the senior Italian national team on November 17, 2010, under coach Cesare Prandelli. He was selected for the Italian national team in Euro 2012 and played as the starting left-back in the group stage match. He also played the full match against Germany as a right-back due to the absence of Christian Maggio and the injury of Ignazio Abate.

Personal Life

Balzaretti is married to the renowned Italian ballerina Eleonora Abbagnato. They tied the knot in the summer of 2011 and have a daughter named Julia, born in January 2012. Balzaretti also has two daughters from previous relationships.
