Influenced by his father, Federico began his cinematic journey at the age of 19 as an assistant director. He assisted his father and Franco Castellano on the 1982 comedy "Attila, Scourge of God." Five years later, he ventured into directing with the unsuccessful comedy "Palla to the Center." This setback led him to pursue screenwriting and directing for several television series.
