Frank Lowy, born on October 22, 1930, in the Hungarian town of Filiakovo, is the co-founder of "The Westfield Group," a retail company. The Westfield Group is one of the largest companies on the Australian stock exchange market, with presence in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Early Life and Career

After World War II, Frank Lowy immigrated to Australia and began importing small batches of goods. In 1953, he met John Saunders, who later became his business partner and co-founder of The Westfield Group.

Success and Wealth

Frank Lowy is the second richest person in Australia, surpassed only by James Packer, with a fortune of $7.25 billion. In May 2001, The Westfield Group signed a 99-year lease agreement with a New York shopping center for $127 million. In February 2006, the company acquired approximately 15 retail spaces in California and South Carolina.

Philanthropy and Other Engagements

In 2003, Frank Lowy founded the Institute for International Policy, an independent center dedicated to foreign policy affairs, located in Sydney, New South Wales. The institute conducts research on international political systems, political parties, and global policy strategies. It also hosts various seminars, conferences, and congresses.

In recognition of his significant contribution to education, Frank Lowy was honored with an award for civic responsibility. On October 2, 2007, he received an award for his public contribution to the development of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, United States. Additionally, Lowy is involved in Australian football and serves as the head of the Football Federation Australia. He is also one of the federation's largest sponsors.

Frank Lowy has held a position on the board of the Reserve Bank of Australia. In May 2007, there were reports in the newspapers that Lowy had been arrested by Israeli police on suspicion of corruption.
