Frederik Kaiser

Frederik Kaiser, a Dutch astronomer, was born in Amsterdam. He published a dissertation on Halley's comet in 1835.

Director of Leiden Observatory

From 1837 until his death, Kaiser served as the director of the Leiden Observatory. His writings included "De Sterrenhemel" (Amsterdam, 1843), and he published a series of notable observations in the "Annals of the Leiden Observatory" (The Hague, 1868, 1870, and 1872).

Contributions to Astronomy

Kaiser conducted micrometer measurements of double stars and determined the positions of fundamental stars. He made numerous sketches of Mars and other planets, and he performed heliometric measurements of the positions and diameters of Mars' features.

Honors and Recognitions

Kaiser was a member of the Royal Astronomical Society and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. A crater on the Moon, a crater on Mars, and asteroid number 1694 were named in his honor.
