Freddy Guarin is a Colombian footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for the Chinese club "Shanghai Shenhua". He began his career at the club "Envigado" and made his debut in the first team after a year. Guarin was then loaned to the Argentine club "Boca Juniors", where he played 2 games. He mostly played for the youth team of "Boca", but injuries to key players Sebastian Battaglia and Fernando Gago allowed Guarin to make his debut for the first team.
In April 2006, "Boca" attempted to buy Guarin's transfer for 500 thousand euros, but he chose to move to France and joined the club "Saint-Étienne". He made his debut for the team on October 14th in a Ligue 1 match against "Lyon", which his club lost 1-2. In March 2007, Guarin scored his first goal for "Saint-Étienne" against "Troyes".
On July 11th, 2008, Guarin moved to the club "Porto" and signed a 4-year contract. On January 31st, 2012, he was loaned to Milan's "Inter". The transfer fee was 1 million euros, and "Inter" had the option to buy the player for 11 million euros at the end of the season.
Guarin represented the Colombian youth national team in the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where his team finished in 3rd place. He played all 6 games in the tournament. In 2003, he also participated in the U-17 World Cup, where Colombia finished in 4th place.
On May 24th, 2006, Guarin made his debut for the senior national team in a match against Ecuador. In the same year, he won the Central American and Caribbean Games with the national team.
