Early Life and Family

Frederica of Schlieben was born into Prussian aristocracy in Königsberg. She was the second and youngest daughter of Count Karl Leopold von Schlieben and Countess Maria Eleonora von Lehndorff.

Marriage to Frederick Charles Louis

On March 9, 1780, Frederica married Frederick Charles Louis, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck, in Königsberg. The couple had three children:

Frederica (1780-1862), married Samuel von Richthofen

Louise (1783-1803), married Frederick Ferdinand of Anhalt-Köthen

Frederick William (1785-1831), Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, married Louise Caroline of Hesse-Kassel

Grandmother of Christian IX of Denmark

Frederica's grandson, Frederick William, became the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and later Christian IX, King of Denmark. Through her lineage, Frederica was the grandmother of the Danish royal family.
