Galina Demykina: Russian Writer and Poet

Early Life and Education

Galina Demykina was born in Moscow into a family of biologists. In 1942, she began studying biology at Moscow State University. However, her talent for writing soon became apparent, and she transferred to the Faculty of Philology.

Career in Broadcasting and Literature

After graduating in 1946, Demykina worked at All-Union Radio. She hosted the popular children's show "Ugadayka," where she interviewed writers, poets, and artists. In the late 1960s, her "adult" poems began to appear in the journal "Novy Mir."

Children's Literature

Demykina began her literary career as a children's writer. From the late 1950s, she published several books of verse for young readers, including "Gvozdik" (1960), "Vechernie skazki" (1962), and "Neposlushnye shnurki" (1963). She also wrote short stories and fairy tales, such as "Aloshka," "Chucha," and "Poteryalas' devochka."

Adult Literature

In addition to her children's writing, Demykina also wrote poetry and prose for adults. Her poems were first published in "Novy Mir" in the late 1960s. She also published a collection of poems, "Korni doma moego" (1971), and the novel "Maski" (1972).

Accolades and Legacy

Demykina received the "Ogonek" magazine award in 1963. Her books have been translated into several foreign languages. She died in Moscow in 1990 and is buried at the Vagankovo Cemetery.
