The Spider Sisters: Ganga and Jamuna Mandal

Ganga and Jamuna Mandal, also known as The Spider Girls, are well-known conjoined twins in India. They were born in Basirhat, West Bengal, India, in 1969 or 1970. The sisters are conjoined at the torso, sharing three legs between them. This unique condition led to their nickname, The Spider Sisters.

Early Life and Career

From a young age, Ganga and Jamuna began performing and showcasing themselves at fairs and circus shows. Despite their physical differences, the sisters were able to move using all their limbs - four hands and three legs. They became a popular attraction, with audiences willingly paying to see them. Their show was simple, often involving basic daily activities like teeth cleaning or applying face cream. Indian spectators were fascinated by their ability to walk on all their limbs. They wore six shoes in total - two sandals on their feet and four on their hands (as one leg remained undeveloped and rudimentary).

Personal Life and Challenges

Ganga and Jamuna faced significant challenges in their personal lives. They share vital organs such as the stomach, kidneys, and liver, making it impossible to separate them without risking their lives. Despite their physical connection, they have different personalities and interests. They often struggle to find compromises, especially when it comes to food preferences or entertainment choices. However, over the years, the sisters have learned to navigate their differences and live harmoniously in their shared body.

Love and Loss

In 1993, Ganga and Jamuna became mothers when they gave birth to a baby girl. Unfortunately, the infant passed away just one hour after birth. The sisters expressed their sadness and pain, sharing that they experience the same emotions and dreams as any other person, despite their unique appearance. Their story gained international attention when Discovery Channel aired a documentary series titled "My Shocking Story" about their lives.

Family Life

Ganga and Jamuna are also married. They share a husband named Gadadhar, who works alongside them at Dreamland Circus. When asked about which sister he loves more, Gadadhar diplomatically states that he loves them both equally. Despite their challenges, the sisters have found love and support in their family and continue to inspire others with their resilience and determination to live fulfilling lives.
