Biography of Gennady Lukashov

Gennady Lukashov was born on November 1, 1924, in the village of Pervomaisk, Krasnodon district, in a miner's family. He was an active and lively boy who loved playing war with his friends and making wooden guns and swords. In 1931, Gennady started attending the first grade of Pervomaisk School No. 6. He was a diligent student who enjoyed exact sciences and had a passion for aviation modeling. Gennady dreamed of becoming a train driver and traveling on long trips. After completing seven grades, he applied to the Rostov Railway Technical College, but did not pass the medical examination.

Gennady returned home and enrolled in the 8th grade of the evening school, and later in the factory training school, in the team of steelworkers. He did his practical training at Mine No. 5 and, starting from June 1941, worked in his field of specialization at Mine No. 1-bis. Gennady's mother, Maria Danilovna, recalls how proud he was of being a working man and how he admired his calloused hands, saying that even the old miners respected him.

In July 1942, as the front approached Krasnodon, Gennady and the mine workers were evacuated to the east, but their path was blocked by enemy troops in the area of Krasnyi Sulin. Gennady returned home, where the occupiers already ruled. He often met with his school friends Anatoly Popov, Viktor Petrov, and Demian Fomin. They wrote leaflets, collected weapons, and discussed plans for further actions. Later, they formed the core of the Pervomaisk underground group, which subsequently joined the underground Komsomol organization "Young Guard."

During the occupation, Gennady joined the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League (VLKSM). The temporary Komsomol certificate was presented to him by the "Young Guard" commissar Oleg Koshevoy. Gennady pledged to justify the trust given to him by his comrades-in-arms and fight the hated enemy with all his strength. He participated in various operations of the Young Guards, such as destroying enemy vehicles and setting fire to a wheat barn near the "Pyatiletka" collective farm. He was also part of a group of underground fighters who liberated prisoners of war from the Pervomaisk Hospital.

On January 5, 1943, Gennady Lukashov was arrested. In the fascist prisons, he was subjected to brutal torture, but he did not utter a word to the executioners during interrogations. On the night of January 15-16, he was shot and thrown into a shaft at Mine No. 5 along with his fellow underground comrades. Gennady Alexandrovich Lukashov was buried in a mass grave of heroes in the central square of Krasnodon. He was posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class and the Medal "Partisan of the Patriotic War" 1st Class.
