Before the War: Russian Lectorate
Born in Moscow, Boris Smyslovsky initially worked for the "Russian Lectorate" in Leipzig, an organization affiliated with the press department of the Reich Security Main Office (RSHA).
Nazi Party and SS Membership
Smyslovsky became an SS Oberführer in September 1938. During the war, he held the rank of Untersturmführer.
Technical Translation and Army Intelligence
Prior to mid-1942, Smyslovsky served as a technical translator for the War Technical Bureau of the Wehrmacht's Armaments Directorate in Berlin. From there, he became the head of the "Zeppelin Enterprise" in late 1942.
Anti-Soviet Operations
Smyslovsky was responsible for designing and executing numerous plans to eliminate top Soviet military leaders. He emphasized the use of Russian agents in these operations.
Sonderkommandos
In June 1943, Smyslovsky became the commander of Sonderkommando A of the Zeppelin Enterprise. Subsequently, he led Sonderkommando 1 of Army Group Center, stationed in Gatchina and later in the Baltics. He also headed Department A of Army Group Center.
