Childhood
Yury Yufa was born in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg), Russia. From an early age, he showed a remarkable talent for music. Yufa attended a specialized school for musically gifted children affiliated with the Ural Conservatory.
Musical Education
Yufa continued his musical education at the Conservatory, where he studied cello. Despite his talent and promise, Yufa initially pursued a career outside of music, becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Discovery of Singing
Music remained a passion for Yufa, and he frequented karaoke bars. It was during this time that he realized his true calling—singing. He formed a band called "Rofano" and began performing with them in 2006.
Rofano and Studio Album
Rofano's music defied genre boundaries, blending elements of soul, art rock, jazz, ice jazz, and more. In 2007, the band released their debut studio album on vinyl, reflecting their unique worldview.
The Voice and Live Performances
In recent years, Yufa has focused on his vocal abilities. In 2014, he auditioned for the third season of the Russian singing competition "The Voice." He impressed the judges with his rendition of "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love" and became part of Leonid Agutin's team. Yufa advanced through the competition, showcasing his vocal prowess and stage presence.
Carnegie Hall and Award
Beyond "The Voice," Yufa has performed on some of the most prestigious stages in the world. He has performed Shostakovich's First Cello Concerto with an orchestra at Carnegie Hall and won the "Best Non-Professional Performance" award at the American Protege competition in New York City.
Personal Life
Yufa's constant companion is his 1783 Guadagnini cello. He views his instrument as an extension of himself, believing it helps him through all life's challenges.
