Early Life and Education

Karlheinz Böhm, an Austrian-Swedish entrepreneur and human rights activist, was born in Darmstadt, Germany. At the age of two, he moved with his parents to Stockholm, Sweden. There, he completed his education and began working for one of his father's businesses.

Human Rights Advocacy

Involvement with Soviet Jews

In 1977, Böhm embarked on an extended trip to the Soviet Union. During his stay, he collaborated closely with renowned physicist and human rights advocate Andrei Sakharov and his wife, Elena Bonner, to advocate for the rights of Soviet Jews.

International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights

Böhm played a pivotal role in the establishment of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights in Vienna, Austria. He served as its president from 1982 to 1992.

Swedish Helsinki Committee for Human Rights

From 1992 to 2004, Böhm led the Swedish branch of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights. He continues to serve as its honorary president.

Later Career

Austrian Service Abroad

Since 2009, Böhm has been a member of the International Board of the Austrian Service Abroad, an organization dedicated to providing humanitarian aid and development assistance worldwide.
