Early Life and Education

Born in Switzerland, our subject embarked on a commercial education in Italy, eventually pursuing a career in insurance. Prior to 1857, his literary endeavors consisted of Italian poetry.

Literary Career in Romansh

A pivotal moment in his writing occurred when he transitioned to the Engadin variant of Romansh. Over the following decades, he published several significant works in this language, including "Rimas" (1865), "Nouvas Rimas" (1879), "Fluors Alpinas" (1883), and "Sorrirs e larmas" (1887).

Writing in Various Genres

Beyond poetry, he ventured into prose, penning novels and short stories. He also wrote comedies and enriched the Romansh literary landscape by translating masterpieces from authors such as Schiller, Goethe, Heine, Musset, and Longfellow.

Editorial Roles

The writer's contribution extended beyond his own writing. He served as editor of the journal "Il Progress" from 1872 to 1873 and later assumed the role of editor for the newspaper "F?gl d'Engiadina" from 1880 to 1891.
