Giancarlo González
Early Career at AlajuelenseGiancarlo González began his professional football career with Alajuelense in 2008. He made his league debut that year and played in two CONCACAF Champions League matches in 2009. González remained with the Costa Rican club until 2012, winning three league titles during his tenure.
Transfer to Vålerenga
In the summer of 2012, González moved to Norwegian club Vålerenga. He made his debut for the team on August 10, 2012, against Odd Grenland. On May 8, 2013, he scored his first goal for the club against Hønefoss, assisted by Jan Lecjaks.
National Team Debut and World Cup Success
González first played for the Costa Rican national team at the 2008 FIFA U-20 World Cup, appearing in two matches for the youth squad. In 2010, he made his senior national team debut and scored his first goal in 2012. He was part of the Costa Rican squad that participated in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup and played in three matches. González was a key member of the Costa Rican team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, playing in all five of their matches.
International Recognition
González's success with both club and country has earned him recognition as one of the top defenders in Central America. He was nominated for the CONCACAF Player of the Year award in 2014 and was included in the MLS All-Star Game in 2017 while playing for the LA Galaxy.
Current Career
González currently plays for Palermo in the Italian Serie B and remains a vital member of the Costa Rican national team. He is known for his strong defensive skills, aerial ability, and leadership on the field.
