George Andreas: A Multifaceted Show Business Entrepreneur
George Andreas was a multifaceted figure in the entertainment industry, serving as a filmmaker, impresario, music producer, and manager.
Early Career and the Crawdaddy Club
Andreas owned the legendary Crawdaddy Club, which played a pivotal role in the early careers of The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds. He briefly managed The Rolling Stones and invited The Yardbirds to perform at his club, becoming their first manager and later their producer.
Marmalade Records and Musical Collaborations
In 1967, Andreas founded Marmalade Records, a subsidiary of Polydor Records. The label home to a diverse roster of artists, including Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and The Trinity, The Blossom Toes, Graham Gouldman, Kevin Godley, and Lol Creme (later of 10cc). The label closed in 1969.
Work with Innovative Bands
Andreas also collaborated with avant-garde and progressive rock bands such as Soft Machine, Daevid Allen, Gong, and Magma. He continued to work in the industry, later residing in New York City.
Later Years
In his later years, Andreas pursued a career in radio as a DJ and managed a recording studio and rehearsal space. His passion for music and show business remained unwavering throughout his life.
