Biography of Giovanni Dosi
Giovanni Dosi is an Italian economist, currently serving as a professor at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy. He has been a professor at the university since October 1998. The Sant'Anna School offers master's and doctoral programs in various fields including economics, business, law, political science, medicine, agriculture, engineering, and industry.
Throughout his career, Professor Dosi has authored more than 70 scientific papers, mostly in collaboration with colleagues. He has also published approximately 50 journal articles, 15 book chapters, and 4 books, both independently and in collaboration with other authors, between 1981 and 2006. He is listed among the "250 Most Cited Economists in the World" according to Thomson Reuters.
Aside from his work in Europe, Dosi has also taught at universities in the United States, Brazil, and Mozambique. At the Sant'Anna School, he coordinates the International Doctoral Program in Economics and heads the Laboratory of Economics and Management (LEM). His main research interests lie in the areas of innovation and technological change, industrial organization and dynamics, as well as firm theory and corporate governance.
Giovanni Dosi is also an invited professor at Manchester University in the United Kingdom and serves as the European Continental Editor of the professional journal "Industrial and Corporate Change" published by Oxford University. He leads specific task groups on industrial policy and intellectual property rights within the Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD), a non-profit organization founded in 2000 at Columbia University by economist Joseph Stiglitz.
A wide selection of Dosi's work was published in the book "Innovation, Organization and Economic Dynamics: Selected Essays" in 2000 by Edward Elgar Publishing.
Giovanni Dosi was born on August 25, 1953, in Fiorenzuola d'Arda, Piacenza, Italy. He received his degree in economics with honors in February 1976, writing a thesis on "Keynes' General Theory: Income Distribution and Economic Activity." He completed specialized studies at the Adriano Olivetti Higher Institute of Economic Studies (ISTAO) in Ancona, Italy, in 1977-1978, and obtained his Ph.D. in economics from the Science and Technology Policy Research Center at the University of Sussex in July 1983.
Since July 2010, Professor Dosi has also held the position of visiting professor at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena in Germany and is a corresponding member of the Accademia dei Lincei, the Italian Academy of Sciences. In October 2009, he was awarded an honorary professorship by the Manchester Business School. From October 2010, Giovanni Dosi has been serving as the Vice President of the Italian Economic Society, and from November 2004 to October 2008, he was a member of its Presidential Council. In 1994, he received the Kapp Prize from the International Society of Evolutionary and Political Economy.
