Biography of Giuliana Camerino

Giuliana Camerino was born in 1920 in Venice, Italy, into a Jewish family. Due to the Nazi racial persecutions, she had to flee to Switzerland where she crafted her first leather handbag. In 1945, she returned to Italy and opened her own atelier in Venice. Over time, her atelier gained popularity for its bold and daring handbags. Camerino was the first to incorporate colorful inserts, embellishments, and other innovations that made traditional women's handbags appear dull in comparison. Notably, the designer employed women who had faced adversity and hardships, creating opportunities for them in her workshop.
