Birth and Early Life
Gökhan Kırdar, a renowned Turkish musician and composer, was born on June 2, 1970, in Aydın, Turkey. Despite enrolling in the Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü (Architectural Engineering Department) in Istanbul in 1988, his passion for music persisted.
Breakthrough and Success
In 1994, Kırdar released his breakthrough album, "Serseri Mayın" (Drifting Mine), featuring the hit single "Yerine Sevemem" (I Can't Love Anyone Else). The same year, he composed the soundtrack for the film "Gece, Melek ve Bizim Çocuklar" (Night, Angel and Our Children). Following this, in 1995, Kırdar released his equally successful album "Tutunamadım" (I Couldn't Resist), which sold an impressive 400,000 copies.
Musical Exploration and Innovation
Seeking to deepen his musical knowledge, Kırdar enrolled in İzmir Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi (Izmir Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Fine Arts), majoring in Musicology, in 1995. In 1997, he founded Loopus Entertainment, his own record label, which released "Trip," Turkey's first electronic music album. This unconventional release challenged musical norms and introduced a novel sound to the Turkish audience.
Electronic Experiments and Collaborations
Kırdar's electronic ventures continued with the recording of "Ethnotronix" in 1999. Alongside this, he collaborated with the Self Project on "Tüyür," an experiment that fused Turkish musical instruments with electronic music.
Soundtrack Contributions
Kırdar's musical prowess extended to the realm of film and television, where he composed soundtracks for numerous productions. Notable among these is "Kurtlar Vadisi" (Valley of the Wolves), a controversial series that gained international recognition.
Recent Projects
In March 2009, Kırdar released "Akta," a network album featuring the bilingual single "Dayan Kalbim/Go On My Heart." Loopus Entertainment released the album for free streaming and download on the official website.
