Biography of Grace Jones
Grace Jones, the oldest resident of Britain, passed away in November 2013, just one month shy of her 114th birthday. She lived in the Bermondsey district of London and remained in sound mind and memory until the end. Prior to World War II, Grace had plans to get married, but her fiancé died on the front lines. During the war, she worked as a seamstress. Grace never married and lived her entire life with her family, including her mother, siblings, and later outlived all seven of them. Miss Jones retired about 50 years ago, and in her Bermondsey neighborhood, she was known and loved for her friendly and kind nature. When Grace passed away, it was a sad news for all her acquaintances, who were very proud of her age. Her neighbors, who had become her best friends over the years, had helped her a lot. Grace lived independently in her own apartment until the end and even refused to move when a robber broke into her apartment and pushed her forcefully when she was 112 years old. He took £100 from her purse, and this incident deeply shook the entire community. Grace celebrated her 113th birthday in December of the previous year and was preparing for the next milestone. Unfortunately, her condition suddenly deteriorated in the autumn, and she was admitted to the hospital. In the few weeks she spent in the hospital, her condition only worsened, and unfortunately, the doctors were unable to help her. Thus, on November 14th, Grace Jones passed away, just one month before her 114th birthday.
At the time of her death, Grace was considered the oldest resident of Britain, and this title was taken over by 113-year-old Ethel Lang. Astonishingly, just a week before Grace's passing, the oldest man in Britain, Ralph Tarrant, also died at the age of 110. Some publications calculated that the combined age of these remarkable Britons was 223 years.
