Early Life and Education
Graham Linehan, an acclaimed Irish screenwriter, actor, and director, was born in Dublin on May 22, 1968. He attended Plunket School in Whitehall before moving on to CUS, a Roman Catholic grammar school for boys in central Dublin.
Journalism and Early Writing
After completing his education, Linehan joined the magazine 'Hot Press' and also wrote a column for 'In Dublin.' Frequently collaborating with Arthur Mathews, Linehan co-wrote or penned scripts for numerous popular television comedies.
Comedy Success: 'Father Ted' and Beyond
Linehan gained recognition for his involvement in the critically acclaimed comedy series 'Father Ted,' 'Black Books,' and 'The IT Crowd.' Together with members of his Twitter 'Bad Movie Club,' Linehan compiled the list 'The 100 Worst Films Ever Made,' notoriously topping it with the horror film 'The Wicker Man' starring Nicolas Cage.
Directing and Acting
Linehan made his directorial debut in 2003 with the short horror-comedy film 'Hello, Friend,' which he also co-wrote with Robert Popper. He has appeared in the surreal news-program parody 'The Day Today' and in two episodes of the comedy miniseries 'Garth Marenghi's Darkplace' with Matt Berry and Matthew Holness. Linehan also had cameos in the BAFTA-winning 'Black Books,' the pilot of 'Your Highness,' and the first series of its fourth episode.
'Bad Movie Club' and Beyond
On Friday, February 13, 2009, Linehan launched the first 'meeting' of his 'Bad Movie Club' on Twitter. Over two thousand users simultaneously pressed play at 9 PM, launching M. Night Shyamalan's 2008 film 'The Happening' with Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel. The collective experience generated 40,000 tweets in two hours. The 'Bad Movie Club' reconvened at midnight on February 14, hosted by Phill Jupitus.
Personal Life
Linehan's wife, Helen, is the sister of English actor and composer Peter Serafinowicz. Helen and Graham have two children.
