Biography of Greg Rusedski

Greg Rusedski is a Canadian and British professional tennis player who competed from 1991 to 2007. He was born in Quebec, Canada to his father Tom, a Ukrainian-born German, and his mother Helen, who was born in England. Rusedski represented Canada in junior and youth tournaments and won the Canadian championship in various age categories six times. In 1991, he won the Wimbledon junior doubles tournament with Karim Alami from Morocco. He also won his first ATP Challenger tournament in Newcastle and his first ATP tournament in Newport, USA, both representing Canada.

In 1995, Rusedski became a British citizen. He has been married since 1999 and has a daughter named Scarlett Mary, born in 2006. Throughout his professional career, Rusedski won 15 ATP tournaments, including the 1999 Grand Slam Cup. His most successful year was 1997 when he reached the final of the US Open (lost to Patrick Rafter in four sets) and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. In the same year, Rusedski was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year. He also won three tournaments in the men's doubles category, including one in London with his constant rival for the title of British number one, Tim Henman.

Rusedski represented Great Britain twice in the Olympics in 1996 and 2000. His best achievement was reaching the round of 16 in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, where he lost to the future silver medalist Sergio Bruguera. In the Davis Cup, Rusedski played 43 matches for the British team, winning 20 in singles and 10 in doubles. His last match in his career was a victory in April 2007, playing alongside Andy Murray against a Dutch pair, which secured an overall victory for the British team in the match.

In January 2009, Rusedski announced his intention to return to professional tennis, but he did not participate in any tournaments since making that statement.
